The World Bank approves USD 402.5 million for projects under partnership strategy with Argentina

The World Bank has approved two projects worth USD 402.5 million targeting healthcare and rural development in Argentina under a partnership strategy with Argentina. Around USD 350 million would be allocated for the improvement of access to control and prevention services for 3.2 million adults aged between 40 and 64 years suffering from chronic non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular, cancer and chronic respiratory diseases under the project, “Protecting the Vulnerable Population from Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases”. The
remaining USD 52.5 million, allocated under the project “Socio-Economic Inclusion in Rural Areas”, will be used to build facilities at primary healthcare centers to provide services for early detection and control of obesity, hypertension, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cancer helping around 50,000 people from 10,000 poor rural families in isolated communities of North Argentina, which would witness improved infrastructure. A World Bank official said they are working with the Argentinian Government to provide ample facilities to the poorest 40 percent of the Argentinian population to break the vulnerability and poverty so that they can develop to their full abilities.
