Baja California represents the largest number of companies, with 69 export-oriented manufacturers and also the largest workforce in the country with over 54,000 jobs. Baja is located in the proximity of San Diego of the US, thus creating the most sophisticated bi-national trade trend in North America for Medtech industry. Medtronic, Greatbatch, Masimo, flex, Fisher & Paykel, Augen, CareFusion, Haemonetics, Essilor, and Lancer are among the majors operating in the state. The state economic policies have nurtured the development of an authentic supplier base and a flexible manufacturing service offer. Greatbatch invested USD 35 million to build its second manufacturing plant in the city, while Flex inaugurated its USD 20-million Center of Excellence, where it will manufacture medical devices to treat and diagnose cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hearing impairment, neurological diseases, and others.
