Brazil’s Health Ministry has invested BRL 73.2 million in a bid to strengthen the healthcare facilities to be provided to fans during the upcoming Rio Olympics. The ministry has provided 146 ambulances to support healthcare during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Ambulances will be available in local competitions to support the athletes and tourists. The ambulances will be equipped with pulse oximeter, electronic artificial ventilator, cardioverter adult and pediatric transport, among other equipment, and will be used to meet the main health demands in local games. Once the Olympics is over, the ambulances will be distributed between the state of Rio de Janeiro and other cities in the country for fleet renewal of the Mobile Emergency Service (SAMU 192). At the 2016 Rio Olympics, medical services will be provided within the security perimeter and particular external assistance offered to athletes and delegations. Over 90% of services in the areas of competition are expected to be resolved on the spot.
