{"id":8342,"date":"2018-12-11T03:58:52","date_gmt":"2018-12-11T03:58:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/globalhealthintelligence.com\/?p=8342"},"modified":"2026-02-16T12:19:53","modified_gmt":"2026-02-16T18:19:53","slug":"mexico-leads-latin-america-in-medical-equipment-and-device-importation-in-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalhealthintelligence.com\/pt-br\/ghi-analysis\/mexico-leads-latin-america-in-medical-equipment-and-device-importation-in-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Mexico Leads Latin America in Medical Equipment and Device Importation in 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, GHI\u2019s data team analyzed import data for the largest medical equipment\/device markets in Latin America, including Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.<\/p>\n<p>The data we analyzed covers the first 10 months of 2018 and includes the following types of medical equipment imported into these countries:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Anesthesia machines<\/li>\n<li>Endoscopy machines<\/li>\n<li>Gamma Cameras<\/li>\n<li>Infusion Pumps<\/li>\n<li>Laparoscopy machines<\/li>\n<li>MRI machines<\/li>\n<li>Tomography machines<\/li>\n<li>Ultrasound machines<\/li>\n<li>X-Ray machines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/globalhealthintelligence.com\/pt-br\/ghi-analysis\/the-10-most-common-surgical-procedures-in-mexico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mexico<\/a> posted massive increases in several different areas when we compared 2018 numbers to 2017 numbers. Here\u2019s a quick rundown:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1,669% increase in the amount of MRI machines imported into <a href=\"https:\/\/globalhealthintelligence.com\/the-best-hospitals-in-latin-america-2018\/best-equipped-hospitals-in-mexico-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mexico<\/a> in 2018<\/li>\n<li>1,167% increase in the amount of endoscopy machines imported into Mexico in 2018<\/li>\n<li>1,021% increase in the amount of X-Ray machines imported into Mexico in 2018<\/li>\n<li>254% increase in the amount of ultrasound machines imported into Mexico in 2018<\/li>\n<li>90% increase in the amount of anesthesia machines imported into Mexico in 2018<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of the categories we analyzed, Mexico posted import decreases in only two areas: gamma cameras and infusion pumps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Increases in Brazil<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although <a href=\"https:\/\/globalhealthintelligence.com\/the-best-hospitals-in-latin-america-2018\/best-equipped-hospitals-in-brazil-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brazil<\/a> posted decreases in imports across a number of medical equipment categories in 2018, it did show increases in a couple of key areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>89% increase in the amount of ultrasound machines imported into Brazil in 2018<\/li>\n<li>65% increase in the amount of endoscopy machines imported into Brazil in 2018<\/li>\n<li>13% increase in the amount of MRI machines imported into Brazil in 2018<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Good Growth in Chile<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Though <a href=\"https:\/\/globalhealthintelligence.com\/the-best-hospitals-in-latin-america-2018\/best-equipped-hospitals-in-chile-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chile<\/a> is a much smaller hospital market than Brazil (with 381 hospitals versus the 7,878 in Brazil), it did post some encouraging increases in medical equipment imports in 2018:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1,768% increase in the amount of X-ray machines imported into Chile in 2018<\/li>\n<li>250% increase in the amount of gamma cameras imported into Chile in 2018<\/li>\n<li>66% increase in the amount of endoscopy machines imported into Chile in 2018<\/li>\n<li>29% increase in the amount of laparoscopy machines imported into Chile in 2018<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Weaker Results in Other LatAm Markets<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our analysis shows that <a href=\"https:\/\/globalhealthintelligence.com\/the-best-hospitals-in-latin-america-2018\/best-equipped-hospitals-in-peru-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peru<\/a> dropped considerably in its medical equipment imports during 2018, dropping anywhere from 39% to 100% in the different categories we focused on. <a href=\"https:\/\/globalhealthintelligence.com\/the-best-hospitals-in-latin-america-2018\/best-equipped-hospitals-in-colombia-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colombia<\/a> also registered considerable drops in just about every medical equipment import category, except for laparoscopy machines, in which it posted an 8% increase in quantities imported.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2><strong>Next Steps<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>While import data is helpful, it doesn\u2019t display the whole picture of what\u2019s happening in <a href=\"https:\/\/globalhealthintelligence.com\/pt-br\/ghi-analysis\/why-latin-america-is-one-of-the-worlds-hottest-hospital-markets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LatAm hospital markets<\/a>. It\u2019s also important to understand trends in equipment counts in hospitals in different Latin American markets, which you can get from our <a
