This is because few products are manufactured locally and therefore\nimported medical devices and equipment are sold to medical institutions. As\nsuch, import data for medical devices and equipment are strongly correlated to\nactual sales and thus are a solid indicator of market activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Defining \u201cEquipment\u201d and \u201cDevices\u201d<\/strong><br>\nIt\u2019s important to note that the import data analyzed by ShareScope are not just\nthe medical equipment and devices themselves, but also their parts and\ncomponents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2018-2019 Decreases in the Mexican\nMedical Devices\/Equipment Market<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The chart below breaks down the CAGR for\n2014-2019 for these categories, as well as a year-to-year comparison for\n2018-2019. It features the difference in both value and quantity in terms of\nequipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"736\" height=\"520\" src=\"https:\/\/globalhealthintelligence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/mexico-2019-import-summary-for-medical-devices-en-01.jpg\" alt=\"State of the Medical Device Market in Mexico\" class=\"wp-image-11819\" srcset=\"https:\/\/globalhealthintelligence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/mexico-2019-import-summary-for-medical-devices-en-01.jpg 736w, https:\/\/globalhealthintelligence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/mexico-2019-import-summary-for-medical-devices-en-01-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 736px) 100vw, 736px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For 2018-2019, we forecast a few drops in\nquantities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>24% decrease in the importation\nof artificial joints<\/li><li>13% decrease in the importation\nof equipment for orthopedics\/fracture treatment<\/li><li>9% decrease in the importation\nof X-ray machines<\/li><li>6% decrease in the importation\nof radiography\/radiotherapy equipment<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, as we will show below, a number of equipment\/device categories posted strong increases in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/globalhealthintelligence.com\/pt-br\/ghi-analysis\/why-amlos-policies-will-hurt-healthcare-in-mexico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Mexico (opens in a new tab)\">Mexico<\/a><\/strong> in 2019 in terms of quantities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, overall, we forecast a 9% increase\nin the <strong><em>quantities<\/em><\/strong> of medical devices\/equipment imported into\nMexico in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That said, we forecast significant drops in\nthe <strong><em>value<\/em><\/strong> of medical equipment imported into Mexico in 2018-2019,\nspecifically:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>50% decrease in the importation of radiography\/radiotherapy equipment<\/li><li>34% decrease in the importation of X-ray machines<\/li><li>27% decrease in the importation of artificial joints<\/li><li>23% decrease in the importation of equipment for orthopedics\/fracture treatment<\/li><li>18% decrease in the importation of electrocardiographs <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, we expect to see a 9% decrease in\nthe value of imported medical devices and equipment into Mexico in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2018-2019 Increases in the Mexican\nMedical Devices\/Equipment Market<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite these downturns, a number of\nequipment categories posted increases. First, there was an encouraging jump in\nquantities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>185% increase in the\nimportation quantities of computed tomography machines\/parts<\/li><li>97% increase in the importation\nquantities of heart valves<\/li><li>95% increase in the importation\nquantities of ultrasound machines\/parts<\/li><li>27% increase in the importation\nquantities of electrocardiograph machines\/parts<\/li><li>8% increase in the importation quantities\nof pacemakers <\/li><li>5% increase in the importation quantities\nof MRI machines\/parts<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, we forecast an increase in the\nvalue of certain medical devices\/equipment imported into Mexico during the\n2018-2019 period:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>31% increase in the importation\nvalue of heart valves<\/li><li>24% increase in the importation\nvalue of ultrasound machines\/parts<\/li><li>16% increase in the importation\nvalue of computed tomography equipment\/parts<\/li><li>7% increase in the importation\nvalue of MRI machines\/parts<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Interpreting the Results<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While other markets faced difficulties\nduring the 2014-2019 period (referred to by some as Latin America\u2019s \u201clost half\ndecade\u201d), Mexico\u2019s medical device\/equipment market actually posted positive\nnumbers during that period:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A CAGR of 2% growth in value<\/li><li>A CAGR of 12% growth in\nquantities<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In general, what we\u2019re seeing with Mexico\nis generalized margin compression in the order of 22% (weighted average).
