Mexico will represent Baja California as its strongest medical devices hub at MD&M West 2016, the largest industry show in the US. Government officials and industry leaders from Mexico will host a conference titled “Success Stories of Manufacturing in Mexico”, where executives from Breg and NEO Technologies will speak about their success. Mexico, with a strong growth curve, is the 9th medical devices producer globally. It is the main exporter in Latin America (majorly to the US, France and Ireland) and also the main supplier for the US in the industry. Baja California represents the largest number of companies, with 69 export-oriented manufacturers and also the largest workforce in the country with over 54,000 jobs. Baja is located in the proximity of San Diego of the US, thus creating the most sophisticated bi-national trade trend in North America for Medtech industry. Medtronic, Greatbatch, Masimo, flex, Fisher & Paykel, Augen, CareFusion, Haemonetics, Essilor, and Lancer are among the majors operating in the state. The state economic policies have nurtured the development of an authentic supplier base and a flexible manufacturing service offer. In 2014, two major global players expanded their manufacturing base in the state. Greatbatch invested USD 35 million to build its second manufacturing plant in the city, while Flex inaugurated its USD 20-million Center of Excellence, where it will manufacture medical devices to treat and diagnose cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hearing impairment, neurological diseases, and others.
