Johnson & Johnson applying pharmaceuticals innovation model to med tech for rapid growth

 

Johnson & Johnson is restructuring its medtech business by implementing its successful pharmaceutical innovation model to medtech aiming faster growth of the medtech unit. In order to meet the ambitions of J&J’s medical device business unit, it has opened its arms to embrace collaboration and innovation with startups and academics. According to the business unit head, “J&J wants to be the partner of choice for companies big and small that are interested in bringing excellent solutions to patients and to healthcare systems around the world”. J&J is targeting to create “bidirectional” partnerships, such as its robotic surgery collaboration with Google. According to the global R&D head of J&J, the company is open to forging partnerships and developing world-leading technology and solutions.
